Scope
Practical Advice, Financial Guidance and Emotional Support for Disabled People and Their Families
Who It’s For: Disabled children, young people and adults, and the families and carers supporting them across England and Wales. Particularly relevant to families navigating disability benefits, financial planning, employment and the practical costs of raising a disabled child.
What They Offer: Scope provides information, guidance and emotional support from diagnosis through every stage of life. Alongside their national helpline, text support and online community, Scope offers dedicated financial guidance covering the benefits system, the extra costs of disability, budgeting and money management. Their free helpline advisers can help families understand what they are entitled to — including DLA, PIP, Universal Credit, Carer’s Allowance and grants — and their online resources include detailed guides on benefits, financial support and managing the day-to-day costs that come with raising a disabled child. Scope also campaigns actively for disability equality and a fairer benefits system, and runs training and awareness programmes to drive systemic change.

Why This Matters: The extra costs of raising a disabled child are significant — and many families are not claiming everything they are entitled to. Scope’s helpline advisers are trained to help families understand the full picture of financial support available to them, from benefits and grants to practical tips on reducing costs. Whether you are newly diagnosed, facing a benefit review or trying to make ends meet, Scope offers a knowledgeable, compassionate and completely free service that can make a real difference to your family’s finances.
