ManKind Initiative

Confidential Helpline and Support for Male Victims of Domestic Abuse

Who It’s For: Men across the UK experiencing domestic abuse or domestic violence from a current or former partner, including same-sex partners. Also welcomes calls from friends, family members, neighbours, colleagues, employers, and professionals supporting a male victim.

What They Offer: ManKind Initiative is a national charity registered since 2001, providing a confidential telephone helpline, information and signposting service for male victims of domestic abuse. Trained helpline volunteers offer emotional and practical support covering all aspects of domestic abuse — whether physical, emotional, financial, sexual or controlling behaviour. They also maintain the Oak Book, a directory of local services across the UK specifically supporting male victims.

Support Includes:

  • Confidential helpline staffed by trained volunteers
  • Emotional support and practical information
  • Guidance on reporting incidents, police procedures, housing and injunctions
  • Signposting to local refuges, safe houses and support services
  • Oak Book directory of local services for male victims
  • Information and resources for professionals working with male victims
  • Support for family members and friends of male victims

Referral / Access: Self-referral. No appointment needed. Call the confidential helpline Monday to Friday, 10am–4pm. Freephone number does not appear on phone bills.

Why This Matters: Domestic abuse affects men of every age, background, profession and sexuality — yet many men suffer in silence, not knowing where to turn or worrying they won’t be believed. ManKind Initiative offers a safe, confidential space to talk, get practical information, and find local help. You are not weak, you are not alone, and you are not to blame.
